Most mattress comparison sites are affiliate businesses. They earn a commission when you click a link and buy. That model creates an obvious problem: the brands paying the highest commissions get the best reviews. You've probably noticed - the same three or four bed-in-a-box brands keep "winning" every roundup.

We don't run affiliate links. We don't earn anything when you buy someone else's mattress. We're a Sydney-based manufacturer and we build every mattress by hand in our Marrickville factory. Our comparisons exist because we think you deserve to understand the real differences between what's on the market, including where another brand might actually suit you better than us.

We look at the things that actually affect your sleep: spring systems, comfort materials, adjustability, trial periods, and long-term durability. We don't compare marketing claims or brand prestige. We compare construction.

Here's what matters when you're weighing up mattress brands:

What's inside. A mattress is its materials. We use honeycomb pocket springs and natural Dunlop latex because they outperform foam on support, heat regulation, and lifespan. When we compare other brands, we look at whether they use pocket springs or Bonnell springs, natural or synthetic foam, and how thick the comfort layers are. Thicker foam layers trap more heat. That's physics, not opinion.

Whether it's adjustable. Most mattresses are sealed units. The firmness you buy is the firmness you're stuck with. Every Ausbeds mattress has a zippered cover and modular components. You can adjust the firmness at home or swap layers if your needs change. When we compare brands, we note whether they offer any post-purchase adjustability, because that's often the difference between a mattress you love for years and one you regret after six months.

How firmness is determined. We match spring tension to your body weight because a 60kg person and a 100kg person need completely different support. Most brands offer "soft," "medium," or "firm."
