Queen Mattress – Sydney Made, Fitted to You

Most mattress brands sell you a firmness and hope for the best. We match spring tension to your body weight – that's the difference. All three models are handcrafted at our Marrickville factory with a 7-month trial and free adjustments included.

How to choose the firmness for your queen bed

A queen mattress should be matched to your body weight, not a marketing label. Most brands sell firm options, medium options, and soft options as though it's purely personal taste. It's not.

Your firmness should be matched to your body. Think of car suspension - you wouldn't put sedan springs in a truck. A firm mattress that suits a 60kg person will be completely wrong for someone at 100kg. The spring tension needs to suit the sleeper.

At Ausbeds, we fit firmness to your requirements across firmness levels 2 through 16. The level you receive will vary depending on your build. A 70kg sleeper might start at Level 6. A 100kg sleeper starts at Level 12. Side sleepers tend to prefer a touch more cushioning for targeted support around shoulders and hips, which is why our Cloud model - with 3,200 microsprings on a queen - is popular with them. But the underlying spring tension still needs to suit the individual.

There's no universal “firm mattress for back pain” or “soft for side sleepers.” Your firmness preferences should follow from how your body interacts with the support system, not from a marketing label.

“My partner and I are very different weights, and have been looking for a bed that would suit both of our needs. We ended up choosing the Cloud range, in a firmer and medium firm half/half. Our back pain has reduced noticeably.”

Size

Queen-size mattress

/mattresses/size/king

A standard Australian queen mattress measures 153cm in width by 203cm in length. Here's how the queen mattress size compares.

  • Single mattress: 91cm width × 188cm length
  • Double mattress: 137cm width × 188cm length
  • Queen mattress: 153cm width × 203cm length
  • King mattress: 183cm width × 203cm length

Moving from a double mattress to a queen gives you an extra 16cm in width and 15cm in length, enough extra space to noticeably reduce partner disturbance. A queen-size bed is the most popular size mattress in Australia, used by roughly 61% of households.

If you want extra wiggle room, a king bed adds 30cm of width. But for most couples, a queen bed mattress strikes the right balance between sleeping space and bedroom footprint.

Range

Our queen mattress range

We make three models. All share the same pocket springs, natural latex, and zippered cover. The only difference is microspring layers for cushioning.

Cooper (Queen $1,950): A firm queen mattress with a direct feel. No microsprings. Best for those who like sleeping “on” the bed rather than sinking in. Firmness range 8–16.

Aurora (Queen $2,450): Medium cushioning, 1,600 microsprings. A balanced sleep experience with quality support. Firmness range 5–16.

Cloud (Queen $2,950): More cushioning, 3,200 microsprings. Our most popular – chosen by the majority of our customers. A luxury sleep experience at a fraction of what imported brands charge. Delivers a comfy, pressure-free night's sleep. Firmness range 2–16.

All models use GOLS-certified natural latex and just 5cm of foam on top. Less foam means cooler sleep, unlike a typical bed-in-a-box brand with 25–30cm of solid foam that traps heat. We don’t run sale events or inflate prices to offer fake discounts. The queen mattress price you see is what you pay, every day of the year. When you see other retailers advertising a “queen mattress sale” with 50% off, ask what the real price is. We stock all three models in every standard size from single to king – no waiting for a sale to get a fair price. Finding the right mattress shouldn’t depend on timing a sale event.

“I spent my sweet time hopping on different models in the showrooms, tried out different mattresses and pillows combo, and got the one I like. One month after having my mattress, I don't need any adjustments. Both my wife and I find these to be more comfortable than the 25cm Tempur we had previously.”

Bases

Why a good bed base matters

I can't count how many customers discover their discomfort is actually caused by their bed base, not their mattress. Flexible slats sag over time, creating sagging and back pain. Press your slats – if they bend easily, that's your problem.

We sell our Slimline Bed Base (queen $480) with solid pine slats and quality construction. Our mattresses also work on adjustable bed bases and most standard bed frame types. A solid base provides proper support underneath and extends the life of any new mattress.

Time to chuck it?

When to replace your old queen mattress

If you wake with aches that fade during the day, or your old mattress shows visible dips, it's time for a new mattress. Rotate your mattress regularly to even out wear and get more from your investment.

At Ausbeds, our modular design means you can replace components (springs, latex, microspring layers) for everyday use rather than binning the whole bed mattress. No component costs more than 25% of the queen mattress price. It's better for your wallet and better for durability over the long term.

Every queen mattress comes with a 7-month sleep trial, 2 free component swaps, a 10-year warranty, and delivery within 15km of Marrickville at no extra cost. Discover how we fit mattresses by weight at our Marrickville store at 136 Victoria Road, open Monday to Friday 10am–6pm, weekends 10am–2pm. Or try our unstaffed Willoughby store to lie on them at your own pace, with complete peace of mind. No brand does what we do. Full modularity and matched spring support.

Call (02) 8999 3333 or WhatsApp +61 403 963 862. Tell us how you sleep, and we'll recommend the right firmness for your queen-size mattress.
