Half-half Mattresses

The Problem with Compromise
Over the years, I've heard from many couples who are tired of sleepless nights.
One partner is too heavy for the existing mattress, so they sink right through and wake up with back pain. The other side feels like concrete. This is the problem every couple knows.
Standard mattresses fail because they use a single spring tension for both partners. If one partner is 105kg and the other side is 62kg, the mattress is inherently wrong for one of them. A mattress needs to match the individual weight of the person on it to deliver proper spinal alignment.
Customised Comfort Layer by Layer
The secret to the Half-Half solution is that we split the mattress lengthwise into two fully independent zones. Everything, from the base springs to the top layer of foam or latex, is customised for each individual partner.
Bodyweight Matched Springs
Instead of using one universal spring tension, the Half-Half mattress uses different pocket spring units. This is the foundation of body support. The heavier partner gets firmer springs, which prevents them from sinking too far, ensuring proper spinal alignment. The lighter partner uses softer springs on their half. This allows the mattress to contour correctly to their body’s natural curves without feeling too stiff. This approach means that each person gets ultimate support based on their weight, not a compromised "medium firm" setting.
Independent Comfort Layers
Above the springs, the comfort layer is also customised. This allows each partner to achieve their different firmness preferences. For example, each side can receive a different density of latex. We can even adjust the positioning of the felt layer to fine-tune the feel, placing it above the springs for a firmer feel or below for a softer feel. This layered approach allows for completely different firmness levels and comfort feel on each half of the bed.
The "No Gap" Engineering
The biggest failure of split king and other mattress sizes designed for different firmness levels is the gap or ridge in the middle. I found that when you simply place two different firmness pieces on top of pocket springs, they form a hump in the middle, and the middle is softer.
Our solution ensures no gap, no ridge, no "crack."
1) We cut and join two different spring units.
2) Crucially, we glue the latex layers together at the seam. This is what creates a smooth, seamless transition.
3) A unified Tencel cover holds the entire combination in place.
The result is a single, cohesive mattress that looks like one bed, but functions as two. Customers report that it's "incredibly seamless in the middle". The intelligent design means that you minimise partner disturbance while maximising individual support.
Why Choose Half-Half Over Other Solutions?
The Half-Half is specifically designed to get both you and your partner sleeping well on the same bed.
How the Half-Half System Delivers Better Sleep
The core benefit is getting proper spinal alignment and eliminating uncomfortable pressure points. Here are a few real-world configurations:
1. The Weight Difference
When body weights are significantly different, using tailored springs is key.
- Partner A (95kg, back sleeper): Requires firm springs and a medium firm latex layer for support.
- Partner B (60kg, side sleeper): Requires soft springs and a soft latex layer to cradle the shoulders and hips.
Result: He gets firm support without bottoming out. She gets contouring for pressure relief without feeling like she is on a firm mattress. This ensures a better sleep experience for both.
2. Matching Sleep Positions
Different sleep positions require different levels of support and pressure relief.
- Partner A (Stomach sleeper): Needs an extra firm, flat surface to keep the spine straight, avoiding a dip in the lower back.
- Partner B (Side sleeper): Needs a soft, deep contouring mattress to relieve pressure points on the shoulders hips.
Result: Both can maintain their preferred sleep positions without waking with pain.
Adjusting Your Sweet Spot
We know that choosing the starting firmness levels can be difficult. That's why we offer a 3–9-month trial to find the perfect mattress configuration.
2 Free Component Swaps: Within the first three months, you get 2 free component swaps that can be used for either side or both.
This trial removes the risk of buying the wrong mattress. If your partner’s needs change in the future—due to injury or aging—we can swap components on just one side years later. This modular design means you don't need to buy a whole new bed.
Example Adjustment
If you start with a Level 9 on one half and decide it is "too firm," we can swap it to a Level 8. If the other side is "too soft," we can swap it to a Level 7. This allows us to adjust the feel until both you and your partner find your sweet spot for a restful night's sleep.
How to Order
For a half-half mattress with different spring units on each side, the cost is $480 on top of the mattress price. This is only available for the Double, Queen, and King-size mattresses.
