Size-by-Size Breakdown
Single — 91 × 188 × 31 cm
Who it suits: Children transitioning from a cot or toddler bed, kids and smaller teens, bunk beds and loft beds, narrow rooms where every centimetre counts.
Weight by model: Cooper 30kg • Aurora 32kg • Cloud 35kg
At 91cm wide, a Single fits comfortably through any standard doorway (80cm) — just tilt it on its side. The 188cm length works for most kids, but if your teenager is already approaching 180cm tall, consider a King Single for the extra 15cm of legroom.
King Single — 106 × 203 × 31 cm
Who it suits: Teenagers who'll keep growing, taller solo sleepers (up to ~195cm comfortable), adults in smaller rooms who need single-bed footprint but more space, guest rooms — generous for one, the smart default.
Weight by model: Cooper 37kg • Aurora 39kg • Cloud 43kg
The King Single is 15cm wider and 15cm longer than a standard Single. It's our go-to recommendation for teens — they'll grow into it rather than out of it. At 106cm wide, it still fits comfortably in most kids' rooms. The 203cm length matches Queen and King mattresses, so taller adults sleeping solo won't have feet hanging off the end.
Double — 137 × 188 × 31 cm
Who it suits: Solo sleepers who want room to stretch out, couples in smaller bedrooms (e.g. Sydney apartments), spare/guest rooms where a Queen won't fit, anyone upgrading from a Single or King Single.
Weight by model: Cooper 46kg • Aurora 48kg • Cloud 53kg
A Double gives each person in a couple about 68.5cm of width — roughly the same as a Single. It works, but it's snug. If your bedroom can fit a Queen (you need about 16cm more on each side), it's worth the upgrade. The Double's shorter 188cm length is something to be aware of if either partner is taller than about 180cm.
Queen — 153 × 203 × 31 cm Most Popular
Who it suits: Most couples (76.5cm each is comfortable for two), solo sleepers who love to spread out, standard Australian master bedrooms, the default for most sheet sets, bed frames, and protectors.
Weight by model: Cooper 53kg • Aurora 56kg • Cloud 62kg
About 61% of Australian mattress buyers choose a Queen. It's the sweet spot — wide enough for two people to sleep comfortably without taking up the room space of a King. At 203cm long, it accommodates sleepers up to roughly 195cm tall. Sheet shopping is easiest in Queen — every brand makes them.
King — 183 × 203 × 31 cm
Who it suits: Couples who want maximum personal space (91.5cm each), restless sleepers or couples with different sleep schedules, parents with small children who end up in the bed, larger bedrooms with space for nightstands on both sides.
Weight by model: Cooper 60kg • Aurora 64kg • Cloud 71kg
A King is essentially two Singles side-by-side (91cm × 2 = 182cm, plus 1cm for the cover). That's why it works so well with our half/half firmness option — each person gets their own side configured to their weight. At 71kg for a Cloud King, you'll want two people for delivery day. It fits through standard 80cm doorways on its side (it's 31cm thick), but measure your hallway turns.
Choosing the Right Size
Your size choice comes down to who's sleeping in the bed, how big they are, and how much room you have.
For Solo Sleepers
Your body size matters more than you think. If you're under 170cm and slim, a Single (91cm) gives you plenty of room. But if you toss and turn, or if you just like to stretch out, a King Single (106cm) or Double (137cm) makes a real difference.
For taller solo sleepers (180cm+), pay attention to length too. A Single and Double are both 188cm — that's tight if you're tall. King Single, Queen, and King are all 203cm, which gives your feet breathing room.
For Couples
A Queen (153cm) gives each person 76.5cm — that's comfortable for most couples. A King (183cm) gives you 91.5cm each, which is noticeably more generous if you're both larger-framed, if one of you is a restless sleeper, or if kids regularly end up in the bed.
Weight differential matters too. If there's a significant weight difference between partners, firmness becomes more important than size. We make every Queen and King with a half/half option — each side configured for a different weight bracket.
“Hubby likes a super firm mattress while I'm the opposite end and would like to sleep on a cloud. They tailored our mattress to a half/half — we are both super happy.”
— Joanne L, verified customer
“My wife and I just purchased a king sized bed where my half is firm how I like it and my wife's half is medium firmness. No more morning neck and back pains.”
— Sinan K, verified customer
For Kids & Teens
For young children (under 10), a Single is fine — they're small enough to have plenty of room, and it leaves more floor space for playing. For kids who need a bunk bed or loft bed, a Single is usually the only option that fits.
For teenagers, the King Single is the smart pick. They're still growing, and the extra 15cm of length (203cm vs 188cm) means they won't outgrow the mattress. It's the most popular size we sell for teens.
“This was purchased to resolve a sore lower back in a teenager due to slight scoliosis which, with previous mattresses, used to need a back rub every day to relieve muscle ache. It has now been half a year and daily back rubs were no longer needed.”
— Lydia, verified customer (Cooper)
For Guest Rooms
If the room only hosts one person at a time, a King Single is the sweet spot — it's generous for a solo guest without taking up the floor space of a Double. If couples might stay over, go with a Queen. The Double (137cm) is a compromise that technically fits two but can feel cramped for guests who aren't used to sharing a smaller bed.
How Much Space Per Person?
If two people share the mattress, here's how the width divides.
| Size | Total Width | Per Person | Verdict |
|---|---|---|---|
| Double | 137cm | 68.5cm | Less than a Single each — snug |
| Queen Most Popular | 153cm | 76.5cm | Comfortable for most couples |
| King | 183cm | 91.5cm | Almost a Single each — spacious |
If you and your partner have different body weights, size alone won’t solve it — you need different firmness on each side. Every Ausbeds Queen and King is available as a half/half, with each side configured to a different weight bracket.
Size + Firmness: Why Both Matter
Size gets you the space. Firmness gets you the comfort. We match both to your body.
Every mattress brand sells sizes. What makes Ausbeds different is that we also match firmness to your body weight — because a Queen for a 60kg person needs completely different spring support than a Queen for a 100kg person. Same size, very different feel.
We use a 5-tier weight-based system. Tell us your weight, and we'll configure the springs to support you properly — no guessing, no “medium-firm-fits-all” nonsense.
| Weight Range | Bracket | Default Level |
|---|---|---|
| Under 50kg | Softer | 3 |
| 50–80kg | Medium | 6 |
| 80–100kg | Firmer | 9 |
| 100–120kg | Very Firm | 12 |
| Over 120kg | Super Firm | 15 |
On the edge between two brackets? Go firmer — a lighter setting will feel like sinking. Each bracket has 3 DIY adjustment levels.
“As I am a petite female, under 50kg, back sleeping, no back issue, sitting for long hours at work — I originally thought that a Sienna 6/8 might be good enough. However, after I tried a few mattresses in store, I picked Aurora 9 as I noticed a better relief when I laid my back on the mattress.”

Not sure you'll get it right the first time? You get 2 free component swaps during the 7-month trial. We come to your home and adjust the springs — no need to return the whole mattress.
Will It Fit? Room Planning Guide
Measure your room before you buy. Here are the minimum recommended room sizes, assuming you want walking space and at least one nightstand.
| Mattress Size | Mattress (W × L) | Min Room Size | Comfortable Room |
|---|---|---|---|
| Single | 91 × 188 | 2.4 × 3.0 m | 2.7 × 3.3 m |
| King Single | 106 × 203 | 2.6 × 3.1 m | 3.0 × 3.5 m |
| Double | 137 × 188 | 2.9 × 3.0 m | 3.3 × 3.3 m |
| Queen | 153 × 203 | 3.0 × 3.3 m | 3.6 × 3.6 m |
| King | 183 × 203 | 3.3 × 3.3 m | 3.9 × 3.6 m |
“Min room” = bed + 60cm walking space on one side. “Comfortable” = bed + 60cm on both sides + nightstand space.
Getting It Through the Door
Standard doorways (80cm): Every Ausbeds mattress is 31cm thick. Tilted on its side, even a King (183cm long) fits through a standard door — the 31cm thickness clears the 80cm frame easily.
Hallway turns: The tricky part isn't usually the door — it's the turn from the hallway into the bedroom. Measure the hallway width at the corner. If it's tight, our delivery team has experience navigating these situations.
Stairs and terraces: Sydney terraces and walk-ups can be challenging with larger sizes. Our team has done it all — including hoisting mattresses over balconies when the staircase is too narrow.
“They secured the mattress with ropes and hoisted it over the balcony which was 4 meters above ground. I was really impressed with their attitude.”

The Ausbeds Difference
Modular Design — Swap individual components instead of replacing the whole mattress. No single component costs more than 25% of your total mattress price. It's the last mattress you'll ever buy.
Half/Half for Couples — Different weights? Different preferences? We configure each side of your Queen or King independently. One side firm, the other soft — same mattress, no gap in the middle.
7-Month Trial — Not 100 nights. Seven full months to live with your mattress through different seasons. Plus 2 free component swaps during the trial to dial in your firmness.
10-Year Warranty — Pocket springs, latex, and microsprings built to last. And because every component is replaceable, your mattress can outlast the warranty.
Made in Marrickville — Every mattress is built by our team in Sydney. Visit the factory showroom to try every size and firmness level in person — no pushy salespeople, take your time.
Swap Components Forever — You can swap components at any time, forever. Body changes, preferences change — your mattress adapts with you. Just order the component you need and swap it yourself, or we'll do it for you.
“There is a 36kg differential in our weights. The great thing is that Ausbeds can make adjustments as per their website info and you are not stuck with a mattress you hate.”
