Ausbeds Aurora mattress
(144 reviews)

Aurora

The Aurora adds one layer of 1,600 microsprings for pressure relief where it counts — without that deep sinking feel. Same honeycomb pocket springs, same natural latex, same Tencel cover as every Ausbeds mattress. The only model in our range that goes both directions: add a microspring layer to become a Cloud, or remove it to become a Cooper. Your needs change, your mattress changes with you.
Are you between 50kgs and 70kgs? This should work for you.

Inside the Aurora

Natural latex

Natural latex

Built to outlast foam

5cm of GOLS-certified natural latex (95% organic). Responsive and bouncy, not the slow sinking of memory foam. Lasts 3–4x longer than foam. Only 5cm on top of springs means far less heat retention than all-foam mattresses. Less hospitable to dust mites than synthetic foams.
Microsprings

Microsprings

The balanced middle ground

One layer of individually pocketed microsprings (1,600 on a queen). The latex moulds to the microsprings. The microsprings mould to the pocket springs. More pressure relief than the Cooper (which has none), less sink than the Cloud (which has two layers). The balanced middle ground.
Honeycomb pocket springs

Honeycomb pocket springs

Matched to your body weight

986 pocket springs (queen) arranged in a honeycomb pattern. That's 28% more than the industry standard 768. This is what the high-end makers do: Hastens, Vispring, Savoir. More springs means more elasticity and better contouring. Each unit is calibrated to your body weight.
Tencel cover

Tencel cover

Full access to every component

Eucalyptus-based Tencel (not polyester) with 1.5cm of quilted polyfoam. It stretches so it doesn’t fight the springs and latex underneath. Fully zippered so you can access, adjust, or replace any component yourself.
From Karl van Lieshout, Founder

I built the Aurora for the people in the middle. You don't want the firmest mattress we make, and you don't want the plushest. You want balanced support with enough give to take the edge off your pressure points.

Back sleepers tend to love the Aurora. One microspring layer adds compliance under your shoulders and lower back without letting your hips sink too deep. Combination sleepers do well here, too. The latex and microsprings are responsive. You can change position without fighting the bed.

If you're not sure exactly what firmness you need, the Aurora gives you room to figure it out. The range goes from Level 5 to 16, which covers four out of five weight brackets. And if you undershoot or overshoot, we swap components during your 7-month trial.

If you're 50-70kg, start at Level 6. Over 70kg, Level 9. Over 90kg, Level 12. Under 50kg, Level 5 is the softest the Aurora goes. If you want softer than that, you need the Cloud.

Your Weight Firmness Aurora Level
Under 50kg Softer 5*
50–70kg Medium 6
70–90kg Firmer 9
90–110kg Very Firm 12
Over 110kg Super Firm 15

*Level 5 is the Aurora's softest. For softer, the Cloud goes down to Level 2. On the edge between brackets? Go firmer. You get 2 free component swaps during your 7-month trial. See our firmness guide for more details.

And if the Aurora is right but you want more cushioning later, we can add a second microspring layer for $500. We come to you. Ten minutes. That's the upgrade to Cloud.

"Me and my husband have been having the best sleep we have had in years. Both of us don't have great backs and we have been waking up painless and well rested. The mattress is better than any 5 star hotel bed I've slept on."

The all-rounder

Most mattress companies make you guess. Pick a firmness, hope it works, and if it doesn't, start again with a different mattress.

The Aurora doesn't work like that. It sits at the centre of our modular system. Inside, there's one microspring layer on top of the pocket springs, and a purple foam spacer underneath. That spacer isn't filler. It's holding the spot where a second microspring layer would go.

Want more cushioning? We pull the purple foam, drop in a second microspring layer, and your Aurora becomes a Cloud. Takes ten minutes in your bedroom.

Want it firmer? We remove the microspring layer and replace it with purple foam. Your Aurora becomes a Cooper.

We haven't seen another brand that does this. You're not buying a mattress and hoping for the best. You're buying into a system that moves with you. New partner, different body weight, injury recovery, pregnancy. Your mattress adapts instead of ending up on the kerb.

Each layer swap costs $500. We come to you. Same springs, same latex, same cover. Nothing goes to waste. And you get the full 7-month trial on your current configuration, so there's no rush.

"The flexibility and customisation of Ausbeds really appealed to us. Karl even suggested a method to easily adjust firmness between the two sides of the bed at no extra cost, which was a fantastic bonus."

How it works
Aurora modular bridge diagram showing Aurora at the centre of the Ausbeds system with bidirectional arrows: simplify to Cooper by removing the microspring layer for minus 500 dollars, or upgrade to Cloud by adding a second microspring layer for plus 500 dollars. Same frame, same cover, same latex. Queen prices shown.
Being honest

If you already know you want the firmest, most direct feel we make, the Cooper is the cleaner choice. No microsprings, just latex straight onto pocket springs. Starts at Level 8.

If you're a strict side sleeper who wants maximum pressure relief where your shoulder and hip really sink in, the Cloud is probably what you're after. Two microspring layers give you noticeably more cushioning than one.

If you love that slow memory foam feeling where you melt into the mattress, that's not what the Aurora does. Latex and microsprings are responsive. They push back. You sleep on the Aurora, not in it.

And if you're under 50kg and want the softest feel we can build, the Aurora only goes down to Level 5. The Cloud starts at Level 2.

Real reviews

"I previously had only IKEA or koala mattresses and was skeptical that it was worth it to spend more on a mattress. Once I tried the Aurora I realised how wrong I was. Now I sleep quietly and through the night. My mental health has improved. I tell everyone about this mattress!"

Robin, ProductReview

"I suffer from an auto immune disease that causes back & joint pain. No more tossing and turning in the middle of the night to get comfortable to relieve any pain on my joints. Hands down the best mattress I've ever owned."

Catt, ProductReview

"I'm a super hot sleeper, so my boxed memory foam mattress wasn't cutting it for me. With the firmer feel and new cover, I'm completely happy with the mattress now. And I'm finally cool enough to need a quilt again!"
